“I will never surrender my free will.” ~ Rachel, Book #27 pg. 3
Castle would have done anything to stop the Yeerk in her head from making more people suffer. She wanted everyone to be free and safe, including herself. Unfortunately, there was nothing she could do. She couldn't even warn anyone, since there was that slimy slug in her mind, controlling her every action and every word. The Yeerk that currently inhabited her brain was known as Quaoar 756, and it was pure evil. Extremely loyal to the Empire, all it wanted to do at this point was get more hosts for the Yeerks to infest. Today would be a day where Quaoar search for new members- a club that the Yeerks use as a front to obtain new hosts.
The University where Castle attended as a student, had an area called the 'Student Center', which was more of a leisure area for students. Often, this is where Quaoar would use her host to convince people into joining the Sharing. Of course, those joining didn't know about the Yeerks, or what the Sharing was really about. Deciding to head to the bookstore there, Quaoar directed Castle through the doors, controlling her every move, breath and footstep. When they reached the inside of the shop, the search for potential members ensued. They were going to be getting more hosts soon enough.
Why do you always do this? It's not fair! You can't do this to them. They don't even know what you are, you repulsive parasite! Castle screamed at the Yeerk in her mind. She was terrified, having no idea what to do to stop this from happening. There's a reason you rarely get volunteer hosts, you know that, right? It's because no one wants a disgusting, slimy, evil little slug crawling through their ear, and attaching themselves their brain, controlling them! Why don't you learn? Castle was getting very frustrated with the Yeerk, especially with its lack or response to her. Castle's appearance to everyone else was very calm, as the Yeerk was in control.
After walking around the bookstore for a bit, Quaoar, using Castle, approached an older student. The student looked like he was upset about something. Perhaps Quaoar would be able to cheer him up by inviting him to the Sharing. That's what the Empire Yeerk hoped, anyways. Any hosts the Empire could get would help with the Yeerk invasion.
"Hello. Are you alright? It looks like something is bothering you." the Yeerk moved Castle's lips to say. Castle wanted to scream. She knew exactly where that slimy slug was going with this conversation. This would be one of those 'new recruits' for the Sharing. Next thing you know, this innocent student would have a Yeerk shoved into his ear and taking away all of his control. He'd be helpless, and unable to do anything. Castle wanted to scream for him to run, but she couldn't.
