Name: Cadence Holt
Age: 18
Species: Human
Gender: Fluid
Controller?: Yes
Appearance: Cadence is short and slightly chubby, with fairly short, pale blond hair. The hair is clearly dyed and doesn't match their slightly darker skin tone, although it's not much paler than their ice-blue eyes. Cadence tends to dress in durable but slightly worn clothing and is almost never seen without a very worn backpack of odds and ends. Cadence's clothing never quite matches; their favourite hiking boots are a sensible brown but for the glittery rainbow laces, for example. They tend towards bulky clothing, wearing thick jeans and wide-shouldered jackets even in warm weather. Cadence tends not to wear much jewellery, except for one piece they are almost never seen without -- a blue wooden disk with a clearly hand-painted black spiral that hangs around Cadence's neck.
Personality: Cadence has "helpful friend" written all over them. They are a bubbly and very curious person, with a tendency to be overly friendly. While somewhat flighty, they are hard to distract one they become focused on something, at least in the short term. Cadence has a tendency to be laid-back but can be snappish if stressed. They can become extremely protective if necessary, but as a whole dislike conflict and will usually let minor problems or insults go rather than argue over them. They become very restless if they can't get enough physical activity, love hiking, and dabble in parkour and urbal exploration. They distrust authority figures by nature, but won't usually start arguments over it unless there's a need.
Dahvil 117, Cadence's yeerk, is almost their polar opposite. Dahvil is naturally solemn and single-minded, and rarely curious about much unless it has managed to specifically grab their attention. Both Cadence and Dahvil have taken their distrust of authority to conspiracy theory levels; Dahvil especially is convinced that the modern yeerk empire is not only wrong-minded in their invasion strategy but that the entire war has been built on a deliberate systematic destruction of yeerk history, culture and social order on behalf of the Empire so that it can push its militaristic, pro-slavery stance.
History: Cadence is the second oldest of six siblings spread between four parents in a complicated system of divorce and remarriage. They moved to town for school and was immediately swept up by the local branch of The Sharing, which seemed like a fun place to make friends. Cadence's natural aversion to authority didn't protect them much in the face of so many open, accommodating people, especially given that it was the first time in Cadence's life without any siblings or close childhood friends. It wasn't long before Cadence found themselves sharing headspace with an alien invader. As usual, Cadence became extraordinarily curious about this new development, starting with 'hey, aliens are real!' and moving right on through 'isn't slavery kind of really impractical here?' over a period of several weeks. Soon Cadence and Dahvil, for all their differences, became united in purpose, and through furtive conversations in the feeding cages down at the Yeerk Pool, Cadence found others who felt the same way, and eventually made contact with the Peace Movement.
Dahvil was born on a Pool Ship in space, like many yeerks. He was studious and tended not to question orders, qualities highly prized in the Empire, although held back by what many considered a lack of initiative. A yeerk of no significant rank, he was assigned Cadence Holt along with the routine ongoing mission of scouting new potential hosts and bringing them into The Sharing. It was Cadence's questions that first got Dahvil interested in yeerk history and culture and first made him suspicious about just how little of it they seemed to have in the bland, Earth-based pool in which he fed. Unlike Cadence, he's not particularly interested in the right to freedom apparently owed to all sentient beings, but he is very interested in how the structure of the Yeerk Empire seems to be built to keep the powerful on top and considers everyone else disposable. He is tired of living in a world where he and his siblings are thrown in danger nd deprived of things to control them, and he is angry. He also knows that so long as he doesn't do anything too obvious, the Empire would never suspect him of doing anything dangerous -- after all, he's always been studious, tended not to question orders, and lacked initiative.
RP Sample: <I hate this part,> Cadence pointed out, eyes scanning the Pool and cages indifferently. Even after all this time, it was strange to have somebody else piloting her eyes, dictating what she saw, but they both knew it would be far too dangerous to give her control in such a place.
<You do not have to go into the cages,> Dahvil responded, as he did every three days. <I could register you as voluntary. You were accommodating enough on your capture that it would not be suspicious.>
<I can work better in the cages,> she said, still following their normal script. <You're not expected to control me in the cages. I can talk about freedom and bad-mouth the Empire as much as I want to the others and that's just what an involuntary host does. I start talking that way as a voluntary, and if it gets back to the wrong people they start asking why you thought it was safe. They start asking about your opinions.> She felt Dahvil step forward onto the pier, felt her knee bend. The pressure of her own knee against the pier was as alien as the pressure of the hork-bajir steadying her arm; neither was in her control. Dahvil took a final, steadying breath.
<Very well,> he said, lowering her head. <Ready?>
<Ready.> She felt him disengage his odes from her brain, one by one. It was a smooth, well-pracitced process, and he'd dropped from her ear before she even realised she had control again. Immediately, she took a deep breath, wrenched her arm ineffectually against the hork-bajir's grip, and began to scream.
"Let me go! You can't do this; I have rights! Let me go!"
